Toronto Transit Commission

We usually use Toronto Transit Commission(TTC). It is a good way to go to any place. But sometimes they have problems.

In march Bay station was repaired. The first day of repair, a train didn't come to Yonge-Bloor station. I was almost waiting for a train for forty minutes. Since I wasn't able to stand anymore, I was walking to Museum station. After this day, subway stopped Museum station instead of Bay station and worked well. But I think they should get prepared to work well from first day. At first day, many people wasted own time.

And on tuesday last week, there was a problem. I didn't know exactly but train stayed at each station for long time. Actually I had enough time to go to my school. But I was late. Not only that day but also many times subway made a problem. I often see that some guys are late because of subway. I think it isn't accident. They should make precautions to prevent this problems.

The Low Birth Rate

Have you ever thought about social problems? Nowadays a lot of social problem are having a big impact on our society. Among those, I am going to talk about a low birth rate. As you know, many countries are suffered from this problem, because this is connected with something like an aging society or a labor shortage. Do you know why this problem has occurred?

Above all, the biggest reason is that a country or a company don't have a delivery encouraged policy. Women who have a baby are suffered from many things, because a county or a company don't consider about women living that have to work and to look after their baby as well as making a living. And company also don't like women who have a baby, because of the concern that women with baby might not concentrate on work. For this reason, many women don't want to get pregnant.

Second cause is that women's mind has changed, as comparing with old days. Before women thought that a livelihood is important thing, but nowadays they think that their live is more important than a livelihood. Therefore, a birth rate is decreasing.

Because of those cause, in our society we can see many problems that I already mention. We have to have an economic responsibility to take care of the old, and we don't have enough labor. As you know well, when we take care of the old, a lot of money is spent on them. And because of labor shortage, sometimes we need foreign people who work at low wages. Therefore many people and many companys have a lot of economic damage, so those problem are causing national economic damage. In order to solve this problem, at first a country and a company have to prepare policy to consider about women living, according to policy that will be changed, women also have to change their mind. Anybody has to remember that the birth rate is very important to keep our society prosperous.

The Homeless.

I'm going to talk about homeless people.
Have you ever seen homeless people? I've seen a number of homeless people wherever I was. Especially subway stations.
When I saw them, I was curious as to why they should be homeless. So, I chose this topic.

As I see homeless people, they don't have any will to work. I know some of them have big problem at working such as mental problems, pysical defect, or something like that.
And the rest of them who don't have any problem, I think they just wanted not to work. I figured out they could be even construction workers if they had tried. They are just begging to live from hand to mouth. What I mean is they should have had wills to work.

Besides, they are in danger. They are always exposed to the crime. A couple of years ago, I saw a criminal stole homeless's ID was used for crimes on T.V. And also homeless people could be a serious criminal suddenly. It's pretty serious problems. I mean, I don't know if their stuff and they are going to be used for the crime again and again.

One more thing is they are supposed to be protected from staying outside for a long time in the winter. I think they need a place not to freeze to death.

I suggest the government should provide shelters to homeless people which means the government had better build more shelters for homeless people untill they settle down. Furthmore, the government give them a lot of opportunities to work and educate. Of course all the people should be interested in homeless people's life. This can effect to the government.
Please think about their life.

I wish all the homeless people will settle down and be happy.

Thank you.

Women position in Japan

Japan is one of advanced countries in the world. It has high-technology,bullet trains, cars and so on.On the ohter side,Japan is a backward country for women. Men are superior over women in Japanese society.

Generally,Companies don't want to hire women who are going to get married and to have children. They think that women can't work hard and well if they have family. Old Japanese society force that men should work outside, women should do house working, raise children and take care of all family. Our society is based on that culture and many Japanese think that is the best way. It's must be very tough situation if women have full time job. They need family agreement, support, understanding boss and company.Sometimes they give up marrige or having children instead of working.

Recently, women's society position is getting better in Japan. But,it's not like other advanced countries. There aren't many women polititians, managers and bussiness women. It's might be much better than now if we have many of them. Then, Japan could be a real advanced country.

TTC Accident

Toronto subway system is older than Korea subway system. Always, this subway was delaied by some problem. But Korea subway arrives on time. The railway system and trains should be changed.

Two weeks ago, Eglinton, Lawerence, and York Mills stations on the Yonge line was closed while investigations into the accident continued. Shuttle buses was running rush hour passengers along Yonge St., which have been closed to regular traffic.

What’s happend? One person died and two people injured in the tunnel. They are TTC transit worker. I guess they might be careless or TTC tunnel might have problem. Obviously this should not have happened. We have to prevent an accident in the bud.

How can we prevent an accident?
The people realized about something after accident and problem happened because we think that we are always safe. However, the accident was caused by carelessness. You must be careful and don't make careless mistakes.

Skinny Models

Do you want to be slim? What do you think about thin people? Do you think that all thin people are beautiful??
My presentation topic is skinny model.

On 15th November, Ana Carolina Reston who was a Brazilian model, died of anorexia. At that time, she was 21 years old. Though she was 174cm tall, her weight was just 39.6 kg.
3 weeks ago from the day when she died, she was taken to the hospital because of liver illness. According to her aunt, her body was so weak that the medicine did not work on her.
The death of Carolina gave rise to much controversy about skinny models. Each country government and fashion association had to deal with skinny models. Because these skinny models give us wrong concept that thin people are beautiful.

In Spain and Italy, the governments prohibited skinny models who are under regular standard from participating in fashion shows. In America, London and France, the governments declared to work on this problem with education and campaign. They did not establish rules.
In Spain, Zara, a major apparel company, announced that they followed the government‘s guide line.

Nowadays, a skinny models problem affects not only fashion society but also governments and apparel society.

Live Together Before Marriage

Living together before marriage is a one of social problem in Korea. This problem is mentioned and debated many times. How do you think about this problem?

Before marriage, they can know personality and their love each other, and they can always be together and save money. Even it has advantage and I don’t have a partial point of view, I have a different opinion about living together before marriage. If I have a boyfriend, I will think about living together once a time. But I can’t do that, because I have to think about my family and my future. As I know, compared with Korea, America or other countries are common. And they have the law about living together. On the other hand, some people have a partial point of view about living together before marriage. Even though many people’s view is changed, until now the old have a bad point of view, because of China’s culture. Long time ago, Korea’s culture is effect from China’s Confucian ideas. Korea still has Confucian ideas.

These days, near university there are many studio apartments. Some people lived together to save money and to be satisfied with love life. Some people are too young, so they can’t control their behaviors. In addition, sexual life also can fall into disorder. It might be dangerous. After living together, many problems can happen. On the assumption that one couple live together, although a woman become pregnant, a man don’t want to get marry. In this case, they might not get married. They may break up or the woman will go to the hospital to abort her baby. Finally they will be unhappy. In Korea, there are many single moms, orphans and there are not enough institutions. There isn’t the definite law about living together. For that reason, this problem became big issue.

How can we solve this problem? I think that living together have to protect by the law. As previously stated, other country has the law about live together. Living together must have provided in the law by government. I think if the law of living together is provided strongly, it will be better than before.

Youth Internet

Thesedays, lots of youths may spend too much time visiting what are called online social networks. They create a web page like a blog and decorate it.
One problem that arises might be that some individuals create a Webpage that reflects who they want to be rather than who they are. I think they must deceive who they are. Now, such deception is quite common.

They can do anything on Internet. They might feel confident and can make up that they seem to be more interesting. They are getting used to deceiving themselves and another.

It may not be legitimate to youths who are growing for future. We should have worried about a problem cause anonymity of the Internet. I think, It make people who use internet can hide themselves. I mean, They don't have to prove theirs identity, so they might trick or deceive. Otherwise, anonymity of the Internet is sometimes useful and It can guarantee to criticism more freely, but some of people we called "netizen" have misused it.

Urgently, we have to solve this problem. How can we?
We ought to teach youths right way to use internet. Also, we have to improve and teach Internet Laws so called "Netiquette" to youths. I said, Youths is future of the world. From now, we have to make polite custom in the Internet. We have to know that deception is guilty not only real life but Internet. If that happens, we might expect that we could use internet much better and more effective way.

The TTC

I want to make a complaint about the TTC. The TTC, which is the main transportation in Toronto, is not really convenient to some degree due to the following reasons.
First of all, the TTC should change old buses for new ones with voice recorder, otherwise we can not recognize which bus stop we can get off or not. In my case, in winter, because of bad weather at night, the windows were all blurred, so I was not able to see the bus stop.If the TTC driver or voice recorder announces the street name, I can know where to get off. It is really hard weather in winter in Canada, so the TTC should take care of the passengers more. I think the TTC should change old buses quickly for new ones because the fee was increased recently.
Second, the TTC bus should have been much more punctual. Recently, I was waiting for bus at Finch station for 30minutes, however, the bus did not come. Lots of people were waiting.
And then, I was really surprised because two buses were coming at almost the same time !It was like twins. If the TTC had been more punctual, two buses should not have come at the same time!
Finally, the TTC should make the metropass more flexible. It is just valid from first day of the month to the end of the month. I think all passengers do not use from first day. For example, I want to use the metropass from April 19th to May 19th because I move to Quebec city on May 19th. The TTC should change the rule about metropass. In Tokyo, the metropass has a lot of varieties. We can start to use it from any time and choose it for one month, three months, or six months. If you choose three months or six months, they will give you a discount. They should treat the passengers the way they would want to be treated.

Problem of Birth Rate

Nowdays there are a lot of social problem. Those might have been affecting to a lot of society field. I am going to talk about a social problem that is birth rate. As you know, that is big problem nowdays. Because of low birth rate, a lof of country are worried about many thing. As expalin about many thing, at first that is labor power. As birth rate will be low, labor power might be also low. That might cause finace stagnation.

Global Warming

Do you know the word "global warming" ?
You know it is a very big problem in the world.
Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans in recent decades.

Using oil and coal (fossil fuel) will make temperatures up.If you burned them, you must have much of CO2.
CO2 has a function of storing heats, and is called "Green Effect Gus".
CO2 has been stored heats since human advanced in technology.

An increase in global temperatures might cause other changes, including sea level rise, and changes in the amount and pattern of precipitation.
If sea level rise, they who live in low-ground must run away other places.

And global warning has a lot of problems.
Then I don't want to think that who has the responsibility for this problem.
Because we are clews of the spaceship named the Earth.
Why don't you think the way to solve this problem?
What is the best way to solve the problem?

I think that we should we should save the waste.
What personal can do is very small.
But when many people do the same thing, that is the big power.
In saying, many a little makes a mickle.
Let's save the waste together.

The Violence of Sao Paulo

Without doubt, Sao Paulo it's a big, beautiful and great city. You might have thought about a perfect city, with a lot of people living in peace and harmony but, you are wrong.
Like the others cities in the world we have a lot of problem, that with a little of willingness we can find the solution.
In my opinion the worst problem we have, is the violence. Because this is something that one day will affect you, if you want or not. You don't have choice.

Last year Sao Paulo was dominated by the crime. A criminal organization called "PCC-Primeiro Comando da Capital" planed a wave of attacks to the policy barracks, their objective were kill every cop they find.

I Don't know what they might have wanted with this, but they do it.
The first attack was in Friday night they attacked a policy barrack, they killed five policies guards, and others guys attacked another barrack and killed more cops, this was terrible. The city was dominated by the crime. Nobody knew about it, that was something new.

On Saturday the waves didn't finish, its was only the begin, but this time the policy guards knew about the attacks, so they started to defend their self. They entered in a war, the cops didn't want arrested the criminals, they shot for kill.

A lot of innocent people died, in these days the streets was empty, everybody were scary, and the city was alone.
The President should have done something to stop with that war.
Without any option, The Government must have done a deal with the Leader of PCC, a guy called Marcolla.

What do you thing he might have thought in this moment?
In my opinion he might have thought that he has power to do every thing he wants.
It is a little depressing make deal with criminals, do what they want, but only doing this the attacks stopped.

Now the same thing is happening in Rio de Janeiro, another Brazilian city.

What they should do? The same as The Government done in Sao Paulo?
In my opinion, it's time to fight against this kind of Criminal Organization.

The most famous Terrorist of the world

I think he is so terrible and horrible man in the world because he always want violence to enemy country, which is only his thinking.
All around world, so, many people have been hated him until now. I know that you will guess someone.
You may be thought Mr. kim, who president of North Korea.
If he was terrorist, then he dicided to attack to South Korea.
It is the war like a 1950 Korea Battle again.
Mr. Kim is dictator of the Communist Party, and also has a dream that unite to North and South Korea by Communism.
But it is not important

Thi is real Terrorist in the world.
His name is George W. Bush ,who is the 43rd President of the United States(2001~2008). He was sworn into office on January 20, 2001, re-elected on November 2, 2004, and sworn in for a second term on January 20, 2005. Prior to his Presidency, President Bush served for 6 years as the 46th Governor of the State of Texas, where he earned a reputation for bipartisanship and as a compassionate conservative who shaped public policy based on the principles of limited government, personal responsibility, strong families, and local control. And his father, who is George H.W. Bush, was president, too. And he belong to the Republican Party in America.

Every one may be remembered on the morning of September 11, 2001,
terrorists attacked the World Trade Center in America.

THE NOTEBOOK

I am so sorry to change the topic at my discretion. In fact, I did not know that we would do presentation about social problem. I realized my own mistake just now. Truth be told, I was so ashamed, I felt like crawling into a mousehold.

If you go to school by subway, I strongly recommend you to read a booklet on the subway. I am afraid nobody is remotely interested in reading.Simon says "many a little makes a mickle." So probably it would be brilliant even though it is short time. Recently, I have been reading a book titled "THE NOTEBOOK" in the subway even when I stand.

The book impressed me highly and reminded me of my first love. When I
tried to read the book at first, I just kept it up without checking even though there were some words and lines I did not know. At that time I was reading with intent to understand a plot of the story. But I have been checking those kinds of words since the second times. Actually it is a little easier to read than other books, and there are so many fine phrases in the book. It means you had better select this book when you make up your mind to read. In addition, If you write a letter to your sweetheart, the quotations from the novel would be helpful to communicate your feelings better.

Of course, some students might watch a movie titled "THE NOTEBOOK" because this novel has been firmed by famous director. THE NOTEBOOK had a good reputation of movies. I was not able to watch this movie without emotion as well. But the book gives far fuller explanation than the movie. Here is a passage of the novel which impressed me so much.

"You are the answer to every prayer I have offered. You are a song, a dream, a whisper, and I do not know how I could have lived without you for as long as I have"

I was moved by this affectionate saying. Looking back, it was the most beautiful, remarkable, memorable novel that I ever read. I believe it could not be more highly romantic story. THE NOTEBOOK will tear a hole in your heart.

Grammar Re-presented:

How to Use Relative Clauses

Use relative clauses to provide extra information. This information can either define something (defining clause), or provide unnecessary, but interesting, added information (non-defining clause).

Relative clauses can be introduced by:

  • a relative pronoun: who (whom), which, that, whose
  • no relative pronoun, Ø.
  • where, why and when instead of a relative pronoun

You need to consider the following when deciding which relative pronoun to use:

  • Is the subject or object or possessive of a relative clause?
  • Does it refers to a person or an object?
  • Is the relative clause a defining or non-defining relative clause?

NOTE: Relative clauses are often used in both spoken and written English. There is a tendency to use non-defining relative clauses mostly in written, rather than in spoken, English.

Domino Suicide

On February 22nd 2005, a Korean movie star named Lee Eun Ju committed suicide. According to the reports, the cause of her suicide was depression. She was totally stressed out about her financial problems. her nude scenes in the movie The Scarlet Letter(2004) and poor box office succes of the film. Many people thought that The Scarlet Letter(2004) drove her to suicide because that movie dealt with dark side of society like adultery and homicide.

On December 21st 2006, a Korean singer named Yuni killed herself. She was also depressed but with her it was a little different than with Lee Eun Ju. When she was teenager, she made her debut as a child actress. After she became an adult, she converted her job, actress into singer. She had a cosmetic surgery to change her appearance to be more sexy. But her sexual performances in the feature and the way she dressed did not succeed in gaining her popularity but only acute criticism. There were a lot of rampant rumors and cruel slander on her blog homepage. She couldn't bear the gossip and the brutal criticism anymore, so decided to commit suicide.

Lastly, on February 10th 2007, Jung Da Bin who was well-known as actress in Korea TV drama also committed suicide because of depression about droping her popularity and long working vaccum.

What do you think of consecutive suicide of famous stars? What does they kill themselves? Just only their mental stress and disease are reasonable to be caused of suicide? No, I don't think so. We can not only make entertainers win applause while standing under the glaring spotlights, but also drive them into a corner and then let them kill themselves. They are not god who is perfect. Our light joke about them can be important role to conclude their lives.

The fashion industry called anorexia.

In the news recently, they are always talking about skinny models. It has become a serious issue for the fashion industry.

In this picture of a 22 year old model, Luisel Ramos, who died minutes later after leaving the catwalk. Do you want to know what she ate? Green leaves and diet coke for 3 months! For 3 months! Can you believe it? Why? Green leaves and diet coke for 3 months in a bid to stay skinny for the runway. Just six months after her younger sister(Eliana Ramos) died of a heart attack. She also was a model. The two sisters problem was an eating disorder called anorexia.

So the fashion industry recently change the system and began to refuse ultra-thin runway model after these two sisters died.

Many girls in all of the world plunged into anorexia now. Because they want look slim and slender, they don't mind their heath. It just keeps making me want to be even fatter, the most important thing is my health. In everything heath should be the first consideration. Keep regular hours, eatting well, sleep well that is most important in your life.

Problem with Making Insulting Comments

People have the right to say whatever they want. Sometimes they misunderstood this right. They think they can say anything but this is not always possible. Think about how it feels when someone tells you something that is very hurtful.

We have to think about other people's feelings. So now I want to talk about making insulting comments. It was happened in internet many times. Nowadays many people use internet. They can get a lot of information and they can write comments about their opinion. Also they can talk to many people in online. They can write something without their real name.

They can hurt somebody in their comments. They should not be allowed to hurt someone. There was some examples in Korea. One of very famous singer committed suicide, because she had changed her face with plastic surgery. So many netizens, which is network-citizen, wrote very bad insult comments in her blog homepage.

She read these comments and became very depressed, and finally it drove her to commit suicide. In my opinion, this problem comes from the anonymity, which mean is someone didn`t identify their name. When anonymity was introduced to internet many people thought that it is very convenient.

They were able to say anything. For example, private things, social problem, and etc. It makes a lot of topics in the internet. But look at nowadays. Do you think anonymity is good? Many web sites try changing their agreement. Their members have to use their real name or they have to tell their real information only web site owner when they are neccesary. I think people have to use their real name. If they can write nondefine their name they can become evil. It might be make other victims.
Therefore we have to use our real name, and more important thing is we must consider others.
After then, we can`t hear any victims.
